What is white labeling?
February 28, 2024By Wikipedia, white labeling or white-label product stands for a product or service produced by one company (the producer) that other companies (the marketers) rebrand to make it appear as they had made it.
The name derives from the image of a white label on the packaging that can be filled in with the marketer's trade brand. In the IT sector, the agencies sell white-labeled products (software, websites, etc.) within their agency brand but a cooperator manufactures, delivers, and support the product by themselves.
The major Cons of white labeling from our experience are:
- Lack of showable public portfolio (even if we developed dozens of complex websites for various brand names or agencies worldwide we are contract bound, and we can't present the final client's websites to potential clients or partners as our own work)
- When we approach a new agency or potential individual client our credibility - as a proven and trusted web development agency is minimized.
If we talk about the Pros of white labeling in web development we can see only one:
- Work for a few of the marketing/branding/development agencies. In case they provide a constant flow of new projects.
White labeling or using your own brand name depends on the situation you are involved. And that absolutely depends on you.
